Progress & Freedom Foundation: Audio: Examining the terms and conditions for use of the spectrum
The failure of the "D Block" auction has prompted both the Federal Communications Commission and Congress to examine the terms and conditions for use of the spectrum. Will policy goals concerning public safety communications be re-evaluated? Will conditions on the spectrum be altered to ensure the spectrum is attractive to bidders in a possible re-auction? On Tuesday, April 29th, Mobile Future Advisor Art Contreras discussed these and related issues at a CEO Luncheon event hosted by The Progress & Freedom Foundation.

Wall Street Journal: Quelling the Danger Lurking In Junior’s Backpack
In the past, some parents worried when their teens holed up in their bedrooms to surf the Web. Now they wonder about their kids' online habits at the mall, in the car or at a track meet. That's because many cellphones now offer Internet access -- making chat rooms and dating sites available from just about anywhere. Cellphones pose yet another parenting dilemma. On one hand, the devices allow adults to maintain contact with their kids, helping to supervise their activities from afar. On the flip side, advanced features on some phones let kids check email, send instant messages, and visit mobile versions of Web sites. And that's where teens can get into trouble. Some cellphone carriers offer services for parents to manage how their children use the Web on their phones. Would you want other people to know, all day long, exactly where you are, right down to the street corner or restaurant? Unsettling as that may sound to some, wireless carriers are betting that many of their customers do, and they're rolling out services to make it possible. Reuters News: INTERVIEW-Mobile phone inventor dreams of human embeds
When Martin Cooper invented the cell phone 35 years ago, he envisioned a world with people so wedded to wireless connections that they would walk around with devices embedded in their bodies. But while phones have come a long way since the former Motorola researcher made the first-ever wireless call from a busy New York street corner in April 1973, Cooper says the industry has fallen short of his expectations. "Our dream was that someday nobody would talk on a wired telephone. Everybody would talk on a wireless phone," the 79-year-old electronic engineer told Reuters.
